Actress-comedian Sandra Bernhard had the idea to do a '90s version of Hugh Hefner's old Playboy After Dark variety show; in Bernhard's send-up, Sandra After Dark, cameras follow her around as she mingles with guests at a late-night party. Mellow jazz plays in the background, and topless waitresses slink around taking drink orders. Bernhard chats with such guests as Theresa Russell, Timothy Leary, and Roseanne and Tom Arnold (''Do you guys swing?'' Bernhard asks the Arnolds; ''I wish!'' says Tom).
It's all very inside, very much a goof — Bernhard even gets Tom Jones to wiggle and croon songs to her — and it's also very entertaining in its silly, voyeuristic way. B+
