Dirty Work

Kevin Dobson (Knots Landing) and John Ashton (Beverly Hills Cop) play longtime friends, ex-cops turned bail bondsmen in Dirty Work, a low-key, well-acted thriller. Ashton's Eddie Ryan is a tough, bitter, but basically good-hearted fellow who gets in trouble with some gangsters; Dobson's Tom Miller helps out his friend. The script, by Aaron Julien, does a good job of summoning up the lonely, seedy lives of these men, lives that Dobson and Ashton embody with solid realism. The movie degenerates into a standard action picture, but the performances are liable to keep you watching. B-
