Hack (1990)

EW's GRADE
D+

Details Lead Performance: Information Society; Genre: Rock

That old joke about watching the TV commercials and ignoring the shows applies to this New York synth trio's second album. When Information Society layers sound bites — from TV, radio, records, and the telephone — over hip-hop beats, Hack conveys the chaos of urban streets with a palpable sense of reality. Unfortunately, these exciting moments are surrounded by plodding and badly sung techno-dance songs. D+
