As a songwriter, Dean Dillon has penned nine traditional country and pop-ish hits for George Strait and a string of songs as long as a lasso for Keith Whitley and Vern Gosdin. So why isn't he a star? Because his interpretive skills never get beyond imitating Merle Haggard, and he saves most of his best tunes for the Big Boys, Pity. C+
