Washington plays an idealistic principal who brings order to the chaos of a South Central L.A. high school. Based on a true story, this drama avoids most of the usual teacher-in-the-ghetto clichés. But because The George McKenna Story was made for network TV, it must necessarily pull too many of its punches, so the message gets muted. B-
