Happiness (1993)

Details Lead Performance: Lisa Germano; Genres: Country, Rock

John Mellencamp's stage violinist bloomed late, from be-seen-but-not-heard American Girl seeds into a tell-you-what-you-need-to-hear Riot Grrrl hybrid. But growing pains can be a good thing. On Lisa Germano's second album, Happiness, the singer-songwriter's fiddling nicely enhances the countrified rock, which is quirky support for pressure-cooked one-liners like ''If I was a puppet we'd get along just fine.''
