EW's GRADE

Details Release Date: Jul 29, 2009; Writer: Lucinda Rosenfeld; Genre: Fiction; Publisher: Back Bay

If you've ever gritted your teeth and offered a phony smile to that one friend who always seems to get everything she wants, Lucinda Rosenfeld's frenemies tale, I'm So Happy for You, will ring true. Wendy Murman — a slightly dull 30ish magazine editor — is struggling to get pregnant (it doesn't help that her husband, Adam, is unmotivated), while her vapid, drama-prone friend Daphne ends up with love, a stunning brownstone in Brooklyn, and a baby in record time. What happens to their friendship, especially when Daphne's facade starts to disintegrate, makes for a witty, scathing novel that's a breeze to read. Unfortunately, its hard-to-love characters make it hard to love unconditionally. B
