Details Lead Performance: The Joe Ely Band

Video has made live albums the musical equivalent of cave drawings; not many performers have enough vitality to live by sound alone. But Live Shots proves that Joe Ely's crew has punk's passion and a bar band's muscle. On these tracks, recorded on a 1980 tour with the Clash, the Austin boys bridge the honky-tonk/hardcore gap. Even the accordion solos get applause. B+
