Tom DiCillo's vapid midnight special, Johnny Suede, perches self-consciously between David Lynch's Eraserhead (same industrial landscape, same mile-high hairdo on the hero) and the twangy retrokitsch of Jim Jarmusch (on whose films DiCillo has served as a cameraman). Pitt wanly plays the title character a rock & roll naif who aspires to be like Ricky Nelson almost upstaged by surprise-value supporting actors liek 60's artifact Tina Louise and cult rocker Nick Cave. Too bad DiCillo's imagination stopped at the casting stage. D
