Does the success of The Final Destination teach us anything (beyond the fact that U.S. audiences love a good decapitation)? Yes! Thanks to a string of 3-D hits including Destination's two-week, $50 million haul, not to mention Ice Age 3 ($194 million) and Monsters vs. Aliens ($198 million) insiders are now optimistic that theaters will be willing to cough up the cash to convert all screens to 3-D. ''Right now, it's impossible to release two or three 3-D movies at once, and that's a problem,'' says Dan Fellman, Warner Bros.' president of marketing and distribution. ''But this success will make a big difference for the industry: 3-D has proven itself at the box office, and it's here to stay.''
