Meet 'SNL''s Newest Players

Nasim Pedrad and Jenny Slate join ''SNL'' -- A cheat sheet on the sketch show's two new funny ladies

NASIM PEDRAD

Background
Tehran-born Pedrad — the first Iranian to join SNL — studied at UCLA before working with iO West, the Groundlings, and Upright Citizens Brigade in L.A.

Where you've seen her
Pedrad's one-woman show Me, Myself & Iran was a hit at HBO's 2007 Comedy Festival (but is no longer available online). She's also appeared on Gilmore Girls and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and had a recurring role as Nurse Suri on ER.

''Trash Talk,'' part of the Groundlings' El Rancho Advanco show, has the comic taking part in an awkward girls' night out.

JENNY SLATE

Background
The Massachusetts native attended Columbia University and went on to work with Upright Citizens Brigade in NYC.

Where you've seen her
The former VH1 talking head made her mark as part of the comedic duo Gabe & Jenny with friend and fellow comic Gabe Liedman. Together, the two wrote and starred in Web shorts for their site (gabenjenny.com). Most recently, she played Jimmy Fallon's earnest, bumbling assistant in Late Night's spoof of The Hills, 7th Floor West.

Check her out
Slate and Liedman's site is full of hilarious picks, but their ad for Jim Beam, titled ''The Girlfriend,'' is the gem of the bunch.
