Michael Jackson Movie Tickets Going Fast!

''This Is It'' breaks advance ticket sales records

Once again, Michael Jackson's legacy has confounded expectations. In just 24 hours, advance ticket sales for This Is It, the documentary featuring rehearsal footage shot in the singer's final days, have already broken records: Nationwide, hundreds of showtimes for the film — which hits theaters Oct. 27 — have sold out. (For measure: One source tells EW It has surpassed advance ticket sales for New Moon.) Much of the fervor has been sparked by distributor Sony Pictures, which will release the film for only two weeks. With so much interest in the King of Pop's final days, it's quite possible most available shows will sell out before It even debuts. If so, will the studio extend the movie's run? ''There are no plans scheduled,'' says Rory Bruer, president of Sony's worldwide theatrical distribution. ''There are plenty of shows, and everyone will have a chance to see the film.'' If not, the DVD release will likely break records of its own.
