This Is the Year of Jesse Eisenberg

The ''Zombieland'' and ''Adventureland'' star talks about his breakout year

Indie Hero
After playing sulky, sensitive guys in films like 2005's The Squid and the Whale and this year's Adventureland, Eisenberg is poised to have his first mainstream hit as a shotgun-toting nebbish in Zombieland. ''I'm kind of shocked to be proud of it,'' says the 26-year-old actor. ''I didn't think anything so commercial could be fun in a way that doesn't make you feel icky.''

Adrenaline Flunky
''All the scenes that are fun to watch were exhausting to film,'' says Eisenberg, though he notes the liberal use of stunt doubles during the shoot. ''If there's something cool-looking in the movie, chances are someone more physically able did it.''

First Nerd
Yes, Eisenberg knows he's often compared to another young star who's regularly cast as the wimpy leading man. ''Michael Cera is in much more high-profile movies than me,'' says Eisenberg. ''I wish I had some control over some great path I'm taking.''

What's Next
He'll play the ultimate geek, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, in David Fincher's The Social Network.
