EW picks Ruben to win ''American Idol''

As repetitive Randy might say, it's all about Ruben, Ruben, Ruben. Or as Simon DID say of the velvet teddy bear, a.k.a., Mr. Area Code 205: "You deserve to win this competition."

It's not that we don't trust the ''American Idol'' judges (okay, we have our doubts about Paula), but we wanted to be doubly sure. That's why we polled 33 ''American Idol''-worshipping Entertainment Weekly staffers to see who should win -- and who will win -- the crown on the May 21 finale.

A full 70 percent of EW staffers think Ruben deserves to win – and 64 percent say that he WILL win. Clay finished second, with 33 percent believing he will win -- while just 15 percent say he deserves to win. ''Clay is a one-trick pony, and I think people will catch on to that soon enough,'' one Ruben-backing staff member wrote. (It seems that EW.com readers think like EW stafffers. In our weekly online poll, Ruben routinely leads Clay by a roughly 2 to 1 tally).

The only other candidates to get votes were Kimberley Locke (six percent of EW staffers think she should win, three percent say she will win), Trenyce (six percent think she should win), and Carmen (three percent think she will win). Of course, you might not want to bet the rent on our pick, because -- as every crooner from Dylan to Merman knows -- it's never over until the fat lady, er, guy sings.
