That Song's By Who?

Fresh faces on the charts -- Will Jason Derulo, Owl City, and Iyaz last?

Fresh faces on the charts

Jason Derulo
The 20-year-old Floridian's club jam ''Whatcha Say'' is built on a sample of U.K. oddball Imogen Heap's ''Hide and Seek.''
How big is it?
No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100 at press time.
But is it any good?
Sadly, Derulo's flat, processed vocals are every bit as generic as his source tune was unusual.
Will he score a second hit?
Only if he can find another quirky alternative singer to sample. Suggestion: Joanna Newsom!

Owl City
Twinkly synth-pop ditty ''Fireflies'' is the handiwork of 23-year-old Minnesotan Adam Young.
How big is it?
No. 7 on the Hot 100.
But is it any good?
Definitely, especially if you're getting tired of waiting for a new Postal Service album.
Will he score a second hit?
Young's album Ocean Eyes contains quite a few catchy tunes, so we're betting radio programmers won't be leaving Owl City soon.

Iyaz
''Replay,'' the slick debut track from this Virgin Islands-born Sean Kingston protégé, was co-written by none other than...Jason Derulo.
How big is it?
No. 14 on the Hot 100.
But is it any good?
Sure, as Auto-Tuned hookfests go.
Will he score a second hit?
Soundwise, the 22-year-old is a dead ringer for Kingston's catchy island pop. He has a shot at emulating Kingston's hit-single success, too.
