In Mammoth, his first English-language feature, the Swedish director Lukas Moodysson (Lilya 4-Ever) tries for a Babel-like global-sociological layer cake, with mixed results. Michelle Williams plays a New York surgeon whose daughter spends most of her quality time with a saintly Filipino nanny (Marife Necesito), who has two kids back home. Gael García Bernal is Williams' Web-mogul husband, who meets the world's friendliest teenage prostitute while in Bangkok. The movie is at once intimate and (in its softhearted way) preachy. B-
