Lil Wayne featuring Eminem
''Drop the World''
''I got ice in my veins/Blood in my eyes/Hate in my heart/Love in my mind,'' Wayne's new track begins...and that's about the end of the safe-for-work stuff. The rap titan's ponderous, percussion-heavy latest may not be radio-ready, but it's an intriguing, if exceedingly bleak, sonic experiment. B+
The rising Nashville trio follows last fall's crossover smash ''Need You Now'' (from the upcoming album of the same name, due Jan. 26) with another yearning midtempo country-rocker. This one's a sentimental, sweetly melodic ode to a waiting-to-break-free small-town girl. B+
''Soldier of Love''
Ten years(!) after the release of her last album, Lovers Rock, the dusky-voiced soul songstress returns with this spare, downbeat song-poem of the heart as a lonely hunter: ''I'm at the hinterland of my devotion/I'm in the frontline of this battle of mine.'' Call her the quiet-storm trooper. B
