Chelsea Handler: How to Interview a Celebrity

The ''Chelsea Lately'' host shares her tips

1 Don't mention plastic surgery
Unless, according to Handler, you're interviewing Lisa Rinna. Otherwise, she says, ''it's humiliating, and you don't want to humiliate people on your show. You want to let people humiliate themselves.''

2 Don't yell at any of your guests
Handler did once have to fight the temptation. ''Tila Tequila was so boring when I interviewed her, I almost fell asleep. I wanted to yell to wake her up and to wake me up and be like, 'Can you please get a personality?'''

3 Stock up on booze
''Thursday is 'Margarita Thursday,' so we put margaritas in the room,'' she says. ''And we always give them a bottle of Belvedere.''

4 Don't tell them directly to their faces how stupid they are
Has Handler ever broken that rule? ''I think I probably have. I can't remember with who. [Some of] these girls are so stupid.''

5 Compliment your guests
''Tell them that they smell good as soon as they sit down,'' she says. Her best-scented celebrity encounter? ''Ozzy Osbourne... It was something I didn't expect. It threw me for a loopty-loop.''

6 Hint that you might be available
''Rappers feel good as soon as you make some sort of reference about you having sex with them,'' she says. ''They usually respond to that. 50 Cent, T.I., Akon — I let him smack my ass. That worked.''
