Host Jeff Probst says season 17 is attuned to its African environment: ''Rather than build a wall for them to scale over, we had them scale a wall that existed in nature. Our challenge [team] flew over one area and said, 'This looks like a golf course.' And so we thought, 'Let's do a Survivor golf course challenge.''' With contestants ranging from an Olympic gold medalist to a videogame nerd, Probst likes the mix of characters: ''The theme this year is good versus evil. Who's going to win, a good person or an evil person?... Being earnest does not keep you in the game.''
