Adapted from Peter Cameron's 2002 novel about a grad student in Uruguay who seeks a family's permission to write a biography of a dead minor novelist, this wandering, elegiac production is the first film director James Ivory made after the 2005 death of his partner, Ismail Merchant. The City of Your Final Destination is lovely to look at and languid to the point of stultifying torpor, as interesting characters make speeches to one another about life, love, and literature. C+
