Moonman Mania

Jay-Z, Beyonce lead MTV VMA nominees. Jigga's ''99 Problems'' gets six nods, while Beyonce, Usher, No Doubt, and OutKast get five each

He's got 99 problems, but an MTV Video Music Award nomination ain't one. Power couple Jay-Z and Beyoncé grabbed the largest share of VMA nominations on Tuesday, with six going to Jigga for his ''99 Problems'' video. Beyoncé earned five, four for her ''Naughty Girl'' video and one for ''Me, Myself and I.'' She tied with Usher (four for the ubiquitous ''Yeah'' and one for ''Burn''), No Doubt (all five for ''It's My Life''), and OutKast (all five for ''Hey Ya!'').

Up for four Moonmen trophies each are Britney Spears, Kanye West, Steriogram, the White Stripes, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Landing three nods each were Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys, D12, Jet, and Modest Mouse.

Usher and Missy Elliott announced the nominations at a press conference in Miami, the city that's hosting the show, marking the first time in the gala's 21-year history that it hasn't been held in New York or Los Angeles. In another change this year, the Viewer's Choice Award nominee pool contains 40 videos that will compete in head-to-head matchups, whittling down the possibilities to five finalists by Aug. 18. The show airs live on Aug. 29 from the American Airlines Arena. Performers will include Usher, Kanye West, Jessica Simpson, Hoobastank, Yellowcard, and Jet.
