The Deal Report

MOVIES And you thought his last movie was controversial: Michael Moore, last seen defiantly accepting an Oscar for his NRA-baiting doc Bowling for Columbine, is in discussion with Mel Gibson's Icon Productions to make Fahrenheit 911, about the relationship between George H.W. Bush and the bin Laden family.... Uma Thurman signed to costar with Ben Affleck in Paycheck, about a man who loses two years of his memory.... Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings) signed with Universal to direct a remake of the 1933 classic King Kong.

TELEVISION Comedy Central has rehired South Park scribes Trey Parker and Matt Stone for three more years of animated fart jokes.... The Sci Fi Channel and Steven Spielberg are finalizing plans for an 18-hour epic, from the team that created 2002's Taken, for 2004 and 2005.

MUSIC Let the good times roll: Ric Ocasek, former frontman for the Cars, is on track to become a talent scout for Elektra Records.... Whoever said ''Elvis is dead'' is probably dead by now. The King, though, lives on with Can't Help Falling in Love, a planned Broadway musical built around Presley's hits, from writer Joe DiPietro (Off Broadway's I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change).

BOOKS The Supremely verbose Diana Ross has written a second autobiography, Upside Down: Wrong Turns, Right Turns and the Road Ahead, to be published by HarperCollins this spring.... Random House will publish a book cowritten by Tori Amos and music journalist Ann Powers, following a day in Tori's life.... Simon & Schuster adds two new projects to its release list: Muhammad Ali's spiritual memoir, written with daughter Hana, for November 2003, and a historical novel by Jimmy Carter, the first president to release a work of fiction -- at least, the first ex-president.
