Adam Sandler has been out-Foxxed. He was in talks with director Michael Mann (''Heat'') to play a rare dramatic role opposite Tom Cruise in ''Collateral.'' Instead, Variety reports, the role will go to another comic actor, Jamie Foxx, who previously worked with Mann in 2001's ''Ali,'' where he played Muhammad Ali's pal Drew ''Bundini'' Brown.
In ''Collateral,'' Foxx will play a failed comedy writer-turned-cab driver whose passenger, a contract killer (Cruise, in a rare villainous role), forces him to drive around Los Angeles looking for the hit man's intended victim. Mann will shoot the DreamWorks drama in October.
