The Deal Report

MOVIES Yes...yes...oh, yes! Pirates of the Caribbean's Johnny Depp will again don -- and then, presumably, doff -- period garb as famous 17th-century sex fiend John Wilmot, the Earl of Rochester, in The Libertine, an indie costarring John Malkovich (Con Air) and In America's Samantha Morton.... Josh Hartnett is set -- and Rachel Weisz is almost set -- to bring a form of autism called Asperger's syndrome to the screen in Mozart and the Whale, another script about savants from Rain Man superwriter Ron Bass.

STAGE Calling Billy Idol and all rapping grannies! Inspired by its success with Hairspray, New Line is mounting a Broadway musical version of the 1998 Adam Sandler comedy The Wedding Singer for the 2005-06 season.

BOOKS Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese are collaborating again -- this time on a book that covers their eight films together and their friendship. ''It's like a professional marriage,'' Scorsese has said. ''And the offspring are the movies.''... Remember that Sex and the City episode where Carrie's boyfriend Berger (Ron Livingston) cut down Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) by exclaiming that the guy she was obsessing over just wasn't into her? That's going to be a book! SATC writers Liz Tuccillo and Greg Behrendt are turning that wisdom into He's Just Not That Into You. The gist: If he's not calling you, he's... just not that into you! ''I do think it's important for women to let men pursue,'' Tuccillo says. ''I'm appalled that this is the case, and I talk about how appalled I am in the book.''
