The Son of No One, a gritty New York cop drama has some of the atmospheric squalor of a Richard Price novel. The director, Dito Montiel, makes violence sting, and he gets a moody performance out of Channing Tatum as a Staten Island officer whose Big Secret is catching up with him. Yet the more that secret comes out, the more incoherent (and ludicrous) the film gets. How, for instance, could the random killing of two faceless sociopaths back in 1986 become a tabloid scandal now? C-
