Bill Haney's convincingly angry activist doc bears witness to the despair of the residents of West Virginia's Coal River valley, where the Massey Energy Company's controversial mining technique of choice — mountaintop removal — has resulted in shocking environmental and health catastrophes. The protests and lawsuits organized by lifelong locals are inspiring. But the movie's power is undercut by the overemphasized presence of celebrity traveling environmentalist Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whom Haney follows everywhere as Kennedy listens intently to the vox populi. B–
