It makes sense, in an abstract story-structure way, to crossbreed The Shining, with its dad channeling the ghosts of killers past, and Shutter Island, with its detective who learns nothing is what it seems including him. But this suburban gothic is a logy, convoluted mess. First Daniel Craig plays a novelist with a wife (Rachel Weisz) and two daughters, then he's the dad's dark double, then the alter ego turns nice, and it just gets more sketchy and ''Huh?'' from there.
