Talk-show host Katie Couric, 56, confirmed her engagement to banker John Molner, 50.

After nearly 13 years of marriage, actor Michael Douglas, 68, and his wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, 43, are ''taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage,'' according to a statement from Zeta-Jones' rep.

Fox announced that Harry Connick Jr., along with the returning Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban, will serve as a judge in the next season of American Idol. Randy Jackson will also be back as a mentor.

Deaths
David Frost, the British broadcaster whose historic interviews with Richard Nixon inspired the play and film Frost/Nixon, died of a heart attack on Aug. 31. He was 74.... Nobel Prize-winning Irish poet Seamus Heaney, known around the world for his acclaimed translation of Beowulf, died on Aug. 30 in Dublin after a brief illness. He was 74.... Longtime CBS News correspondent Bruce Dunning, 73, died in New York City on Aug. 26 from injuries suffered in a fall.... Actor Murray Gershenz, perhaps best known for his role as a hospital patient in The Hangover, died of an apparent heart attack in Los Angeles on Aug. 28. He was 91.
