The thrill of any good Turow novel — such as Presumed Innocent — is that heart-stopping instant when you realize you've been piecing together the wrong puzzle. In Identical, he focuses on a set of twins involved in a 26-year-old murder case: Cass Gianis, who pleaded guilty and served time, and Paul Gianis, who's running for mayor. But the victim's brother thinks the wrong twin went to jail. As always, Turow crafts plausible suspects, but he telegraphs that moment of seismic bewilderment with an excess of plot tremors. You'll be left nodding your head, not holding it. B-
