Between Star Trek, American Horror Story, and the Broadway revival of The Glass Menagerie, Zachary Quinto has been a busy actor. But he's also been occupied shepherding film projects through his production company, Before the Door, including J.C. Chandor's 2011 debut, Margin Call in which Quinto starred and the director's current Oscar-buzzy survival tale, All Is Lost.
Now Before the Door is entering the horror arena with Banshee Chapter, which is available on VOD and hits select theaters Jan. 10. The 3-D film follows a journalist searching for a friend who took an enhanced form of the psychedelic drug DMT. "I've always been fascinated by mind expansion and the lengths to which people will go to experience it," says Quinto, 36.
Also on the docket for the shingle is a reteam with Chandor for his third movie, the corporate thriller A Most Violent Year, which is about to begin filming with Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac. "It takes place in the early '80s in New York City after the oil crisis," says Quinto. "It's exploring the rise of the oil empires." Acting-wise, Quinto says he's deciding what to do after Menagerie shutters in February; the next Star Trek may take a while. "They're in the process of figuring out the script right now and figuring out who is going to direct it," he says. "There's a lot of questions to be answered before a start date arrives."
