'Anchorman 2' Director Talks Supersize Cut

Will Ferrell and Steve Carell have more hilarity in store on the ''Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues'' Blu-ray

We shouldn't be surprised that the Anchorman comedy team — who churned out 70 Dodge Durango ads before the sequel's December release — hasn't yet run out of jokes for Ron Burgundy & Co. Fans of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues will soon be able to experience a "darker, odder, and stranger" cut of the movie. "It's like A Passage to India in length, and I think there's, like, 763 new jokes," writer-director Adam McKay tells EW, describing the new "Super-Sized," R-rated version that's an extra on the expanded Blu-ray pack, out on April 1. (The digital download of the theatrical version is available on March 11.) "There was a lot of funny stuff that almost got in the movie, or I actually liked it a little better but it wouldn't quite work," including alternate versions of the epic, cameo-heavy gang fight and a discarded musical sequence.

Unlike Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie, the bonkers parallel movie that McKay cribbed together from the cutting-room floor of the first Anchorman, this cut follows the beats of the theatrical release, just with "99.8 percent new jokes," the director says. "It's really a version of the movie for comedy fans. It's not for the casual fan — but I don't know if Anchorman really has casual fans."
