Three years ago, Stiefvater said goodbye to the werewolves of Mercy Falls and her Shiver trilogy. But as it turns out, the story's not over for wolf-shifting bad boy Cole St. Clair and his girlfriend, Isabel Culpeper. Sinner's sharper and more compelling than the series; it's less about the lupine lifestyle and more a journey of redemption. I'm always leery of companion novels, which have a tendency to be ghastly, but this one's a refreshing revisit. B+
