On Fox's ''Celebrity Boxing'' next week, Amy Fisher will be replaced by Paula Jones as Tonya Harding's opponent. No word on why Fisher dropped out of the bout, but sexual harassment lawsuit plaintiff Jones should be an even more formidable opponent; after all, Harding may have helped kneecap a figure skater, but Jones helped kneecap a president.
SOUND BITES braved the bad presidental karma at Ford's Theatre to attend a benefit for the Washington institution last night, headlined by Stevie Wonder and hosted by Kelsey Grammer. Also on the bill was David Copperfield, who enlisted Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle as a volunteer for a magic trick. However, Copperfield could not ''make the Senate Democratic majority disappear,'' Grammer quipped to the largely Republican audience. Singing ''Superstition,'' Wonder shouted, ''If you're feeling it, let it out!'' Folks at home can watch the Washington power elite letting it out when ABC airs the benefit at a yet-undetermined future date.
The Sex Pistols notoriously bestowed a wet raspberry on Queen Elizabeth's celebration of her 25 years on the throne in 1977, with the release of their irreverent single ''God Save The Queen.'' Now that the Queen is celebrating the 50th year of her reign, Virgin plans to rerelease the single on May 27, the 25th anniversary of the initial release. Back then, the single shot to No. 2 on the British charts, despite a near-complete lack of TV and radio airplay. ''What we really want is it will finally gain the No. 1 spot. It will certainly be an alternative to the jubilee,'' said a Virgin spokesperson.
