Someone from Limp Bizkit has finally testified in the Australian inquest into the death of a fan at the band's Big Day Out show in Sydney last January. Tour manager Alexander Murdoch MacLeod testified Friday that he felt that the show's local organizers had made insufficient security and medical preparations, that the show was understaffed with security guards, that those who were hired were inadequately trained, and that he had expressed these fears to the producers a week before the show. Jessica Michalik, 15, was caught in a crush of fans and suffered a fatal heart attack. The inquest is now on recess until June, at which time Fred Durst and one other band member are expected to testify via satellite.

PASSING NOTES Lawrence Tierney, who spent his career playing gangsters and tough guys, died in his sleep Tuesday at a Los Angeles nursing home at age 82. He was best known for his starring role in 1945's ''Dillinger,'' and for his career-reviving role in 1992 as Joe Cabot, the ringleader of the ad-hoc gang of color-monickered robbers in Quentin Tarantino's ''Reservoir Dogs.''...

Soap opera stalwart Mary Stuart, who starred as Joanne Gardner Barron (eventually Joanne Gardner Barron Tate Vicente Tourneur) throughout the entire 35-year run of ''Search for Tomorrow'' (1951-86), died Thursday at 75 at her home in New York. She had suffered a stroke, but was also battling gastric cancer and bone cancer. She had also played Meta Bauer on ''Guiding Light'' since 1996.
