REEL DEALS Doesn't Johnny Depp sometimes seem like one of the Lost Boys? Maybe that's why Miramax cast him in ''Neverland,'' the biopic about J.M. Barrie, the author of ''Peter Pan.'' Marc Forster (''Monster's Ball'') is directing the film this summer in London....
''A Beautiful Mind'' may have won Ron Howard all the Oscar attention, but ''Apollo 13,'' for which the Academy famously snubbed him, will ultimately prove the bigger movie. Literally, since it's being rereleased in IMAX format this summer. Unlike other theatrical features that have been shown in IMAX venues (like ''Jurassic Park III'' and ''The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,''), Howard's real-life space drama will actually have negatives reformatted to fit the IMAX screens, which will mean much better resolution than using standard 35 mm negatives. Howard's company Imagine, which is about to shoot a live-action ''The Cat in the Hat'' with Mike Myers, will also make special IMAX-sized prints of that film as well....
Jesse Dylan is becoming the go-to guy for high-concept hip-hop comedy. After directing Method Man and Redman in the stoners-at-Harvard comedy ''How High,'' Dylan's been handed ''Shorty,'' the alienz-n-the-hood caper starring father-and-son duo Master P and Lil' Romeo.
TUBE TALK On last week's ''Celebrity Boxing,'' Danny Bonaduce, Todd Bridges, and Tonya Harding were able to beat Barry Williams, Vanilla Ice, and Paula Jones, respectively. But can they beat Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, and their fellow Friends? Fox is rerunning last week's highly-rated special, featuring its three fights between formerly famous folks, again this Thursday at 8 p.m. It pummeled ''The West Wing,'' so why not ''Friends''? The rerun is, of course, just a stopgap until Fox can find another half-dozen shameless would-be pugilists for a second round in May....
ABC, having made a deal with Universal to insert overt plugs for the rerelease of ''E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial'' into the plot of ''My Wife and Kids,'' has made a similar deal with Revlon to feature the cosmetics company in several months worth of episodes of ''All My Children.'' In the soap plot, Revlon tries to hire an employee away from Enchantment, a rival makeup manufacturer run by Susan Lucci's Erica Kane, who responds by sending her daughter to work there as an industrial spy. An ABC spokesperson says that, while Revlon paid ''multimillions'' for the placement, the idea originated with the show's writers. No word on whether ABC will now try to save ''Nightline'' by having Ted Koppel work into interviews the occasional mention of the hair care products responsible for his famous coif....
''Saturday Night Live'' alumna Molly Shannon is back in New York, where she'll appear as a guest star in several episodes of ''Sex and the City.'' She'll play a single woman who works in publishing in the shows, which start production today. No doubt her character will be complaining to the other gals about how guys find it a turnoff when she sticks her fingers in her armpits and then sniffs them.
