TUBE TALK Sunday's may have been the lowest-rated Oscar telecast in five years, but they still ensured an ABC win in last week's Nielsen race. The Oscars proved the highest-rated entertainment broadcast this year, averaging 41.8 million viewers, pulling up ABC's viewership for the week to an average 13 million. The network also landed it's pre-Oscar ''On the Red Carpet'' (26 million) and its Barbara Walters special (17 million watched her interview with winner-to-be Halle Berry) in the top 10.
Second-place CBS (11.7 million for the week) and third-place NBC (10.6 million) divided up the rest of the week's top shows, with staples like ''Everybody Loves Raymond,'' ''Friends,'' ''Survivor,'' and ''.'' CBS enjoyed a strong debut for talking-tot show ''Baby Bob'' (15.6 million), as did Fox with ''Andy Richter Controls the Universe'' (9.8 million). Fox was fourth for the week (8.2 million), followed by UPN (3.8 million), and the WB (3.3 million)....
More good ratings news for ABC: Ten million people ignored the scathing reviews and tuned in to Monday's debut of ''The Bachelor.'' The reality show is scheduled only for a six-week run, presumably culminating in Alex Michel's proposal to one of his 25 bachelorettes, but maybe ABC can drag it out (''The Broken-Engagement Guy,'' or ''The Post-Annulment Guy'').
HITCHING POST He's got a gal who lives on the hill. ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill married actress Charleen ''Chuck'' McCrory, his girlfriend of 10 years, on Saturday before 200 guests at Tony's Ballroom in Houston. The band's drummer, Frank Beard, was Hill's best man, while Beard's wife Debbie was McCrory's matron of honor. (Guitarist Billy Gibbons was also present.) McCrory wore a white Reem Acra gown with a low cut bodice, while Hill was a sharp-dressed man in a Hugo Boss tuxedo, J.B. Hill boots, and cheap sunglasses. No word on whether there was a flower girl to carry McCrory's train or Hill's beard.
