What do you think about the comparisons made between you and Richard Hatch?
I'm like, What the hell is that? It's like grouping Sean and Gervase and Clarence together -- comparing them simply because they're black. The fact is that our show is most similar to season one, and it was edited that way. Richard Hatch is not me and I'm not Richard Hatch. I didn't sit around and go, ''Hmm, what would Richard do? He took off his clothes. That's what I'll do.''
But you did take off your clothes.
I was up at a waterfall with this huge pool of water. Any liberal would think it's a cool place to go skinny dipping. Once I got home I thought to myself, What have I done? I'm just happy there weren't too many shots of me in my Marquesan warrior skirt last night. I had fabric left over from my kite so I made this sarong thing. I wanted to go commando but you could see right through it.
You made it a point to mention your great abs in your final interview. How are they now?
I've got a four pack now. I don't have a six pack anymore. People keep asking me if they can see them.
What was it like being alone after you got kicked off as the first member of the jury?
I had the first three days to myself. I was glad I had that time to process everything that happened. Next week you'll see what happens when I come back and I've eaten and had something to drink. The producers jaws were dropping. People are going to be stunned when they see the difference in what I look like. It's like the prodigal son coming home.
Do you wish you'd played the game as less of a leader?
My style is always to the point. I'm a strategist by nature. I'm always looking to capitalize. I wish on Rotu there was another one of me that I could have hidden behind a little bit to take some of the heat off of me. Everyone was pretty docile. Tammy was the closest but she's a journalist so she could be more detached.
So no regrets?
The only thing I would have done differently was the situation with Gabriel. He deserved a lot better. He has a beautiful spirit and in the midst of the game it seemed like it was the right thing to do. It probably was, too, because I think he would have gone on a tear that would have been almost unstoppable. And if he had made it to the final two, that's not somebody you want to be against. He's too kind and nice and funny and beautiful.
Are you using your ''Survivor'' fame for anything?
Unfortunately, all of it's free, but I'm doing a lot of volunteer work and that way I'll be able to network. Last week I was in an elephant sactuary where Asian elephants go after they've been abused or injured. I want to help them raise funds so I'll be speaking on their behalf. I have all my HIV/AIDS organizations and I'm going to do speeches for HRC, the Human Rights Campaign. I was nominatd to be marshal of the Omaha Gay Pride parade.
Do you hope to become famous from all this?
I love to speak so anything that comes out of this would be great. I would love to do spokesperson or hosting type stuff. That's what I want to do. I have community ambitions and I have my own personal ambitions. Hopefully they can work together.
