ALL 'WOMAN' Lynn sings the blues in her memoir

Credits

Writer: Loretta Lynn; Genre: Nonfiction; Publisher: Hyperion

''Here's something else I didn't explain at all in ''Coal Miner's Daughter'' is a recurring sentiment in Lynn's second memoir about her bare-bones Kentucky upbringing and country-music fame, Still Woman Enough. Still, it's hard to begrudge a book with chapter titles like ''This Is Gonna Be a Helluva Show! Bobby's Pants Is Unzipped, and Loretta's Drunk!'' Lynn chronicles her tumultuous marriage to Doolittle (whom Tommy Lee Jones brought to drunken, womanizing life in the 1980 movie) and the troubled histories of their six kids. Slog through her endorsements of Garth Brooks and both President Bushes, and treasure the memories of fellow Nashville legends like Conway Twitty and Tammy Wynette, who kept her beauty-operator license current in case the records ever stopped selling.
