What was wrong with the room?
It was too much like a high school kid's. I told them to take some trophies down, and he needed a lot more books. There were none in there. I mean, he's smart, he reads.
What would you like to see next for Nick?
I've actually just enjoyed watching him come into his manhood over the last two years. You can see that in the confidence he exudes now. I'd like to continue that. Maybe he could take over C.S.I. someday, or have a relationship and a family.
What about Nick's love life?
I keep asking Anthony [Zuicker, ''C.S.I.'''s creator] to dig deeper. Instead of having Nick fall in love with a hooker, which is not something I agreed with, how about a child abuse counselor -- someone who isn't necessarily ''all that,'' but whose heart is all that. If you ever see a love interest happen for him again, it's going to be one that's from the heart.
It sounds like you're itching to write and direct.
One of my good friends is a director on the show, and we talk about directing a lot. But it will probably be years before I start doing that stuff. I'm having too much fun acting.
How do you feel about the ''C.S.I.'' spin-off?
It's really something I think I'll wait to comment on. On one level, anything that promotes the arts and creates more jobs for set designers and boom operators and the like is great. But there's another way I feel about it too, so I'm going to wait and see. I don't want to bite the hand that feeds me.
Are you adapting to your status as the sex symbol of ''C.S.I.''?
I don't really think that's something I can control. I'm just living my life, and if that's appealing to some people, fine. But you'll never see me in a photo flexing my abs.
