TV takes aim at Latino shows and stars | 173621__kingpin_l
MEN IN THE BLACK Steven Bauer and Yancey Arias play Latino drug-smugglers
Kingpin: Chris Haston

''CSI: Miami'' As above, a Latino character was all but obligatory. In this CBS spinoff, he's a junior sleuth played by Adam Rodriguez (''Roswell'').

''Kingpin'' NBC dropped a pilot about a Miami-based female FBI agent but picked up this midseason drama about a Latino family involved in drug-smuggling. Think ''Traffic'' (the Catherine Zeta-Jones section) meets ''The Sopranos.''

''Resurrection Blvd'' Showtime's family drama begins its third season this summer.

''American Family'' CBS rejected the pilot for this series from creator Gregory Nava (''Selena''). Currently finishing its first season on PBS, the family drama starring Edward James Olmos and Raquel Welch has been picked up for a second year.

Nickelodeon continues to air such Latino-themed children's shows as ''Dora the Explorer,'' ''The Brothers Garcia,'' and ''Taina.''

Other returning shows with prominent roles for Latino actors include ''NYPD Blue'' (Esai Morales and Jacqueline Obradors), ''Third Watch'' (Eddie Cibrian), ''That '70s Show'' (Wilmer Valderrama), ''Scrubs'' (Judy Reyes), ''Gilmore Girls'' (Liz Torres), and ''The West Wing'' (Martin Sheen, ne Ramon Estevez). On the other hand, cancellations of ''Dark Angel'' and ''Spin City'' mean the end of lead roles for Jessica Alba and Charlie Sheen (ne Carlos Estevez).
