What's better than a sticky summer evening rocking out with the washed-up ex-frontman of a once-great hard-rock band? A sticky summer evening with two of them. Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth kick off their coheadlining spectacle May 29 near Cleveland (Hello, Cleveland!). If you like your nostalgia a little classier (or at least less hairy), point the Volvo toward the Eagles' latest comeback outing, which launches May 31 in Reno, or gamble on the current itinerary of the Who, who debut June 28 in Las Vegas.
For those of you who didn't stop buying records in the '80s, there are plenty of more current artists making the concert rounds. Korn venture into the sunlight for a summer jaunt (with Puddle of Mudd on some dates) beginning June 20 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., while Lenny Kravitz and Pink are gonna go your way starting July 12 in Virginia Beach, Va. Jay-Z and the Roc-A-Fella Family, 311, Hoobastank, Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek, and the Nappy Roots team up to show some love for the Sprite Liquid Mix tour, which gets rolling in late August.
Alanis Morissette offers more than just her set with worthy opener Ryan Adams on dates through mid-June, while the Dave Matthews Band will noodle their way across the land through September. John Mellencamp inaugurates his latest tour in Burgettstown, Pa., on July 3. Britney Spears does it again starting May 24 in Las Vegas, and Usher, um, ushers in concertgoers through mid-July. Rush embark on their first tour in five years on June 28 in Hartford, Conn. Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers sally forth starting June 27 in Grand Rapids, Mich. And Kid Rock and his Twisted Brown Trucker band are also hitting the highway through June 22.
More alternative-minded music fans will bask in Cake's Unlimited Sunshine tour, with the Flaming Lips, De La Soul, Modest Mouse, and Kinky. Elvis Costello is punching the concert clock until his tour ends with a June 24 show in Atlanta. And break out the ultra-super-hold Aqua Net to get your Mohawk up for the dream teen-punk pairing of Green Day and blink-182, whose joint tour wraps up June 17 in Minneapolis. Hat acts saddling up for summer include Brooks & Dunn, who giddyap into Clarkston, Mich., June 1, and Kenny Chesney, who has dates scheduled through August. And while Alan Jackson may or may not know the difference between Iowa and Idaho, he's definitely aware he'll be touring the country through September. Hope he has a good map.
