On their third album, the Lawrence, Kan., emo kings temper nervous romantic energy with an overdue dose of contemplation. In their remarkably earnest songs -- underscored by the odd power-ballad guitar and filtered vocal -- special girls get their own shrines and hurt boys scratch their heads, wondering what went wrong. This is the group at their best, waiting for love that never materializes.
