SHOE FITS

The woman who played Tina Turner knows shoes have everything to do with it. Angela Bassett visited shoe designer/orthopedic surgeon Taryn Rose's shop and later selected five pairs of stiletto-free shoes, including a round-toe, low-heeled lace-up. "She didn't want to be thinking of her feet hurting," says the designer's rep.

"SPIRITS IN THE MATERIAL WORLD REDUX"

"I'm wearing Jean-Paul Gaultier, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, and Donna Karan. Everybody," joked Sting to Joan Rivers on the red carpet.

HAIRLOTS

Between Helen Hunt's tousled mane and Marisa Tomei's messy bun, sloppy hair (also spotted on Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz) was the 'do. "It's the modern way to do hair," says NYC and L.A.'s Prive Salon stylist Laurent D., who fashioned Uma Thurman's locks into a funky ballerina bun. And why did Thurman decide on the casual look? "She didn't want to upstage Ethan," says Laurent.

FOLLICULAR FOLLY

Nicole Kidman and J. Lo, among others went to Great Lengths for big Oscar hair. The pricey hair extension treatment bonds human hair (harvested in India) to clients' own hair. "If you don't have [thick] hair naturally, you have to do something like this," says stylist Jason Wilkerson, who performs the service at New York's Oscar Bond salon. "Your hair is your main accessory." And only your stylist will know.
