During a recent trip to his kids' dentist, Tom Cruise learned his bite was misaligned and braces were in order. Faster than you can say ''railroad tracks,'' the 39-year-old was outfitted with a pair. ''Anything that's out of balance tends to become worse as you get older,'' explains adult-orthodontics specialist Dr. John White of Cleveland's Case Western Reserve University. ''That's probably what they said to him, because I don't think anybody would say to Tom Cruise, 'Hey, your smile needs work!''' Will Cruise, whose transparent gear will be removed during film shoots, do for braces what he did for Ray-Bans? Says White: ''Anything Tom Cruise does filters out.''
