B-
In his latest bulletin from the New Jersey school of existential nausea -- actually, two unrelated tales linked as ''Fiction'' and ''Non-Fiction'' -- filmmaker Todd Solondz reveals how much he cares what others think of him, daring a visitor to come up with any criticism he himself can't put forth first. And the cleverness undermines an otherwise fascinating worldview, even while a strong cast -- including Selma Blair, Robert Wisdom, Paul Giamatti, and Mark Webber -- works hard in service to Solondz's bleak vision of suburban misery.
