Showing remarkable restraint in their airheaded comedy, the filmmakers wait just over an hour before pulling out the ''don't mean to burst your bubble'' line. October Sky's Gyllenhaal -- as a hyperprotected immunodeficient teen who crosses the country in an inflated dome suit to break up the wedding of his dream girl (Marley Shelton) -- and a few clever flourishes almost give this allegory of tolerance some substantial bounce, but the film is unable to break away from the tether of predictably sophomoric humor and hackneyed stereotypes.
