Playing the brilliant real-life mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr., who managed his schizophrenia well enough to eventually win a Nobel Prize, Russell Crowe summons a powerful depiction of mental illness with barely an eyelid flicker separating manifestations of sickness from utterly sane displays of creative concentration. A Beautiful Mind establishes the physical reality of Nash's world with such authority that we can taste the chalk dust on the blackboard. Jennifer Connelly plays Nash's wife; Ed Harris is a government agent who recruits the professor to break codes.
