This Senegalese session -- now released domestically with a second disc's worth of material -- stands beside King Sunny Ade's JuJu Music as a landmark export of African pop. Recorded in the early 1980s, it conjures a 1960's vibe, melding sultry Cuban melodies, French crooning, burbling polyglot grooves, and pillowy ambience. But the real prize is the chilled-out guitar of Barthelemy Attisso, whose laconic solos are an object lesson for jam-band wankers worldwide. A perfect album.
