The first American Pie raised two questions: What is a comic genius like Eugene Levy doing in a sloppy kid flick like this, and why aren't these characters anywhere near as compelling as their predecessors at Ridgemont High? But AP2 -- which finds the entire cast of former high school buds reunited during the summer after their freshman year of college -- passes with flying carnal colors. They've grown up (Hannigan's band geek is in loove) but not too much (new additions include lesbians and superglue). It's really not just another teen movie, but rather a surprisingly poignant postadolescent coup.
