Alright on Top (2002)

Details Release Date: Apr 09, 2002; Lead Performance: Luke Slater

It was only a matter of time before someone rediscovered '80s synth-pop, that merger of machinery, melody, and vocal monotone. In America it's the Faint; in the U.K. it's Slater, who ditches the experimental vibe of his previous work for this rousing album of upgraded dance pop. Such tracks as ''Only You'' and ''Nothing at All'' rattle and hum like good electronica, but singer Ricky Barrow's dry emotionalism and the songs' undeniable hooks are pure old-school techno-pop. All that's missing are intros by an original MTV VJ. A-
